Labour can be intense, but that doesn’t mean you lose the right to make decisions about your body. Informed consent is just as important during labour as at any other time. Whether it's an internal exam, CTG, epidural, induction, forceps or emergency caesarean — you have the right to be told what is happening, why, what your options are, and to say yes or no. Ideally the time have discussions about intervention measures that may happen is during your antenatal care.
Even in urgent moments, consent isn’t just a formality — it’s a legal and ethical requirement. Being in pain or vulnerable doesn’t make you incapable of understanding or deciding.
Healthcare providers must communicate clearly and respectfully and you can change your mind at any time.
